chocolate chip biscuits

I know they are called 'cookies' these days but when I was growing up we ate biscuits. We ate homemade ANZAC's, jam drops, afghans, and melting moments. And we ate cornflake and sultana biscuits, kiss biscuits and my mothers outstanding shortbread. Although I loved them all, sometimes I got a little envious of the girls at school with their perfect looking machine made biscuits. In primary school my brother used to sell his homemade cakes and biscuits to fund his mixed lolly addiction. Some days I swapped mine for a store bought biscuit. I would never do that now.

We made these chocolate chip biscuits a while back from here and although I thought they were OK, they didn't knock my socks off. So I am calling out for your help in the search for the perfect chocolate chip biscuit (or if you insist, 'cookie') recipe.

My tummy thanks you in advance.

Mmm, I love a good choc chip cookie. They're about the only thing I call "cookie", everything else is a biscuit.

I use an old Womans Weekly recipe, its never done me wrong :-)
125g butter
1/2 cup sugar
1/2 cup brown sugar (lightly packed)
1/2 tsp vanilla
1 egg
1 3/4 cup SR flour
pinch salt
125g choc chips

Cooked for 10-12 min at 180deg.

I don't have a brilliant recipe to share but I am a total BISCUIT Nazi. I have no room for the word cookie in my life. Particularly the ANZAC kind. The worst of the cookie encroachments!
I hope you find the perfect recipe.

Oh, I am SO with Kt!! Biscuit all the way. Same with FROSTING! Grrrr, it is icing!! I could go on, but I hate how American we are becoming. Lets use the words we all grew up with, please!
Hmm, I'll get looking on a recipe. I have a killer baking book. I'm sure there is one in there.
Mmmm, biscuits. I could go one of those pictured right now...

Not sure if it is the best chocolate chip biscuit but I just made the one on the packet of the new White Wings Homestyle Chunkies Chocolate Chunks biscuits. They were popular in my house crunchy on the outside but chewy inside.

You can't go past the NY Times Cookie Recipe - must say I've never left the dough rest for 24 hours and still good - http://www.nytimes.com/2008/07/09/dining/091crex.html
And here's the recipe tweaked by Molly...

This recipe was given to me (by an American born friend) as the Best Ever Chocolate Chip Cookie Recipe. It is high time for a name change!

Best Ever Chocolate Chip Biscuits

250g butter
1 cup brown sugar
1 cup white sugar
2 eggs
1 tsp vanilla
2 1/2 cups oatmeal
100g dark chocolate
2 cups flour
1 tsp baking soda
1 tsp baking powder
1 packet dark choc chips

-Blend oats and 100g choc to a fine powder.
-Cream butter and sugars, add eggs and vanilla.
-mix in dry ingredients. I do this by hand with a wooden spoon as it gets a bit stiff for my old Kenwood Chef.Add choc chips last.
-Roll into balls and bake at 180 for 10-14 mins. (10 mins for chewy 14 for crunchy)

This mix freezes perfectly in a log, you can pull some out of the freezer when the oven is on, slice them into rounds almost immediately and put them in the oven semi frozen. The result is a very store bought looking bikkie and an immense sense of satisfaction.

If I am cooking with children who cannot read I usually reduce the amount of sugar, otherwise I just kid myself that the fibre in the oats makes them healthy.
