giveaway...

I am approaching a blog anniversary (200 posts) so I thought I would host a little giveaway. I am not very good at these I have the horrible feeling that something from the past is still waiting to be sent... opps. But this time I promise to be good. You see the giveaway item is sewn, finished and ready to go - all I need if a name and address to put on it. I am happy to post this anywhere in the world.

It's a little capelet, the little capelet above in fact. Something for a girl about 4, 5, or 6years old or more or less (its so hard to estimate as I am used to having a minnie Minnie that I don't really know what bigger girls are like)! I know its big on her so who knows? It will fit someone of some age, I am sure.

But you have to work for the prize! I need you to help me out here with baby names. I am after suggestions for girls and boys names as we don't know what we are having. Just to give some parameters, Minnie is really 'Stella Rose' and our baby that died is called 'Alice.' We like older names, nothing 'made-up' with mad spelling and we are not too keen on surnames as given names. And we have a German surname, starting with 'F' that is not easy to spell or to say. Tricky, I know. So please leave a comment with some name suggestions and we will pick a winner on Tuesday 9th February 2010.

Thank you in advance - our name list is looking a little thin on the ground!

it's beautiful rach, i love it! as for the names, i will give you what we had if eva was a boy: joseph, and one of her middle names which is grace? i love old fashioned but timeless names as well.

I love the name Lillian Jane - which is why I named my daughter that!

For a boy I am on a bit of an Edward kick at the moment (and it has nothing to do with Twilight.)

That capelet is gorgoeus.

How about Audrey for a girl? Nothing is coming to mind as I try and rack my brain for a boys name. I may have to ponder over that one.

I hope you are feeling well and not too exhausted.

Oh, too hard. I'll have to think on it. We had enough trouble ourselves! Your rules sound like ours though - traditional names! Nothing made up or too new with fancy spelling! If I give you any names, it will only be our leftovers that may end up getting used at some point in the future. Man, names are hard! I'll get back to you on this.

For the fellas - Baxter, Manus but my favourite is Max James

For the ladies - Lucy Rose or Emse Rose, becuase I think it is nice that even if the girls get amrried and change their names that they will always share their middle name.

Perhaps I should add though that my naming qualifications are a bit shonky, we had cats named Pine tree and Squirty and Hasha and Zinzan the puppys

Have you seen nymbler.com? You can type in your "name inspirations" and it will give you both boy and girl suggestions of names that are similar. I've been having great fun with that site lately.

I'm having the same problem - looking for the same type of names you are. Google popular baby names from 1900 - they were popular then but many aren't now, and some of them are just gems. Though I don't know if I want to call my daughter (if I'm carrying a girl) Lettice or James...

Good luck!!

Bec said...

Oh I can't imagine how hard this will be, and I hope you find some gems somewhere in this long list of comments. Me, I love Ivy, Sophie, Lily, Evie, Micah, Myles, and Rueben. Hope they help! And good luck with everything!

The little capelet is very cute! Pity my little girl is too big for it. Some names I like are Isabelle Rose which is my daughter's name. I also love Grace, Matilda, Ella, and Jack and Patrick for boys. I also love the name Remy but it isnt an old fashioned name.
