And the winner is....

Drum roll please....

Anna! (randomly selected by Minnie sticking her jammy fingers on my laptop screen). Thank you all for your lovely comments and sharing in my excitement of reaching 75 sales since starting on etsy late last year. I have also sold quite a few dresses and tops 'off etsy' and I am part way through my big first wholesale order - exciting and busy times ahead (I hope).
When I started maternity leave I had every intention of returning to my job where I wore a suit and went to meetings and travelled around to attend more meetings and did other meeting type activities. I loved where I worked and my colleagues were some of the most wonderful people around. I could never imagine not going back. But something strange happens when a naked, tiny, wet, pinky/blue coloured bundle of brand new life if placed on your chest.

My 1 year maternity leave stretched easily into 2 years (my work had brilliant conditions like 12 weeks maternity leave at full pay or 24 weeks at half pay and then unpaid leave to take you up to 2 full years). I could not face returning to work, not even the 2 days that I was planning to do, as we live quite a commute from my office (at least 3 hours a day in total) and my husband is forever jetting off to far flung places with his work. The thought of Minnie all alone with her parents miles away made me feel terrible. We don't have any family in this part of the world so no Oma's or Gaddy's or Auntie Kippy's to take care of our girl.
So I resigned. Through a bit of sobbing I wrote the letter and felt a great part of me disappear into the ether with it when I pressed 'send.' I know that may sound odd to some people but within a few key strokes I seemed to have given away a great part of who I was. I felt lonely and without a title. I love being a mother but for me alone that was not enough. I desperately needed something to do to give me another focus, another interest and I suppose another 'title.'
I have sewed and designed clothes since I was young (I have books filled with my evening gown designs, inspired by the then newly wed Princess Diana...) and I had started making a few little things that I thought I could sell. While scouring the web for vintage fabric (another love) last August, I came across a blog that I started reading and was introduced to a new world in the form of musings on life, sewing and parenting, travel and design, art and a whole lot more. I fell in love with it all and was energised by these women. What really caught my eye was this thing called etsy. I could not believe that I had not heard of this 8th wonder of the world! Handmade things that were cool and groovy. Handmade things that you could buy and sell. And that was the beginning of my new 'title'...

Hip Hip Hooray, its a Giveaway!

I should have waited until I hit 100 sales on etsy but I am too excited! So to celebrate 75 sales I am giving one lucky reader the chance to have their very own grandy and baa creation for their special little one or another person's special little person...
The winner can choose either Tilly or Toby T-Rex appliqued on a white 100% cotton tee-shirt (either 6-12months, 12-18months or 18-24 months). That's Tilly in the picture. Its easy - just leave me a comment between now and Friday 25th April. I will happily post the item anywhere in the world.

I can not believe I didn't know...

...that the underwear that firms up all your wobbly bits actually works! I made this amazing discovery yesterday when I purchased some Nancy Gantz (type) Pantz! I knew about these modern miracles (whose mother does not own a pair) and I have laughed along with my darling friend after her post-caesarean instructions from her obstetrician included getting some Gantz Pants (she got them). But I never really considered their infinite benefits until I was faced with the daunting task of getting an outfit for a wedding next month. Apparently jeans, a tee-shirt and Birkenstock's are not considered 'glamorous cocktail.' I have expanded a little in recent years and I can not blame Minnie for this - I blame my husband and Mr's Absolute and Tanqueray, the special red and white 'mummy drinks' that come in glass bottles and cooking too many things that involve butter and cream, and cream and butter, butter and cream...

I have already had numerous melt downs thinking about the wedding outfit and I am sure I will have a few more, but armed with my Pantz, my wobbly bits are a little firmer and smoother and the butt seems to be a little higher. However, as some of you may know, they are not the sexiest underwear available so I shall not be anticipating any bubbly fuelled frolicking the night of the wedding - they take about half and hour to 'peel' off. And when they are off, the wobbly bits magically return. A bit like a pumpkin and a carriage and midnight...

(I could not and will not post a photo of these Pantz, regardless of how much I love them).

lesson 1: christian dior lipstick does not come off the couch

I think you can workout what happened...

My advice is not to leave your favourite $40.00 lipstick that is cased in gorgeous shiny gold anywhere visible and accessible to a Bower bird of a toddler. See this happened 2 days ago and I discovered that lipstick does come off a leather sofa, albeit with special leather cleaner and lots of hard work. But yesterday I discovered that hiding the lipsticks (yes that would be 2 $40.00 lippies) on the top of the bookshelf is not really hiding them.
That's when I discovered that Christian Dior lipstick does not come off the fabric couch.
Today's outing is to the upholstery cleaners...

failure and success

Well I tried but only managed 2 out of the 7 postings for 'simply still' week. And they were not very good photos. Thank goodness it wasn't a photo a day for a year type challenge - I would have looked so uncommitted...

This past week as been a little crazy in our house with Minnie's tantrums. They seem to have settled down a little over the weekend. Must have been something happening in the land of Minnie development. Her imagination is really blooming with lots of dress up and pretend games. I love it. I love dressing up so I am quite pleased when I get the chance to be the silver rocket ship or the farmer or the chef.

Earlier last week my etsy store, and one design in particular, was featured on this website. I was tickled pink! It was the first that this has happened. Thank you.

I have a busy week ahead - quite a lot of sales = quite a lot of work.

Daylight savings has finally ended here - that always makes me a little sad.

way behind....

Funny Face

I am way behind this week - I am supposed to be taking part in Jen's 'Simply Still Week' and on account of not sitting still for very long, I have no still life photos done! I will have to do all mine at once...
Toddler advice required: what on earth do you do when your toddler has a complete melt down with all the special effects (screaming, hitting, 'no, no,NNNNNNNOOOOOO',) and tries to rip off their new PJs for some unknown reason? They don't stop until the PJs are removed (a little worse for the experience). I am sure you don't loose your cool like me...

Thank you all so much for your kind words, prayers and donations for Jackie - I am so amazed at how truly wonderful this community is. Truly amazed...
